The Things that Dreams are made of

Take time to see the wonders of the world
To see the things you've only ever heard of”

This post’s TUNE comes from The Human League.  Everybody knows “Don’t you want me baby...” mainly because it is a hell of a song, but my personal favourite is this little number.  I think by now you might have started to realise that my musical taste is very eclectic, but I do have a bit of a thing for the eighties, despite some of the fashion disasters which came from this period, there were many a tune produced that has stood the test of time, well in my eyes I think it has!

Listen to the video here and check out the website here.

This is what my dreams are made of....

Dress: Primark (old)
Tights: Primark (£3.00)
Shoes: Tesco (old)
Watch: F Hinds (old)
Bag: Primark (old)
Jacket: Primark (old)

Ok, so this is what I'm slowly learning whilst doing this blog... Half of my wardrobe is Primark.  Fact.
There's nowt wrong with that but I guess I didn't realise just how much money I have donated (spent) through shopping in Primark over the years, I think I might be just about keeping them going... well me and the rest of the country...

Anywho, I love this little baby doll dress, it's so pretty, but so old, but given the material it has survived well!  As it is just so cute I have kept the accessories to a minim other than my good old faithful watch (one must always wear a watch don't you know), and a pair of polka dot tights.

Ah polka dot, it seems to be doing the rounds at the moment and I am all for it, I love it and I especially love these tights!  I normally wear a medium in tights (mainly for the height, I'm 5'8"), but with these I bought large as I think it's so easy to rip tights like these so it's best not to have to pull them too much... just a bit of a tip there.

I have finished the outfit off with a splash of red using my old mack that I can't even remember buying it was that long ago... But I think looks quite fitting.

So there you go, another outfit another day.

p.s. Do you like my new glasses?

I was sent them by Firmoo, you can check out my post on these bad boys here.

The Nail Files Part 4

I’ve been getting busy with the stickers again... Ohhhkkkaaayyy that sounded wrong.  Anywho, I’ve been giving my nails a well needed treat and made them look all nice and pretty and stuff, you know, being girly and stuff...
So this is how my delicate lady hands look at the moment:

How delightful!

The colour is Plum Raisin by Tesco for just 99p (bargain central!) and the stickers are from ebay, I bought mine a little while ago, but there are plenty on there.

I would give you a bit of a tutorial on it, but anyone can paint their nails (alot better than me) and then put a sticker on top, so I won’t patronize you with that!

Stay Cool,

Bad Touch

"You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals
So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel"

This post’s TUNE comes from The Bloodhound Gang. Ok, so yes it’s childish, and yes, maybe I do have the sense of humour of a 14 year old boy if I think it’s funny, but quite frankly I don’t care, as I blinkin’ love this song!  So if you want a bit of a giggle and a bit of an odd song to sing/rap along too (oh yes, I do that!) then take a look at the video here and have a little look at the website here.

You and me baby should be looking at the outfit....

 Dress: Oasis via Ebay
Top: Topshop (£20.00, sale)
Tights: Primark (£2.50)
Shoes: Primark (old)
Necklace: Topshop (old)
Bag: Miss Selfridge (old)

I found this top on sale in my local outfit, I’m not sure if it was on sale because it was just one of those items that hasn’t sold or because (which I later noticed) it has someone’s very orange foundation smeared on the front.   Don’t you really hate it when that happens!  It’s usually on the last one of your size left grrr!  And why god why is the foundation always so orange!!!  Do you want to look like a tangerine?  Or in this case a tangerine with a hole missing where the makeup has smeared off.  Word of advice, do not apply makeup with a trowel, it’s not a good look, and if you do insist on doing it, please refrain from trying on clothes, no one wants a white top with an orange collar!
Rant over.

Anywho, this top originally had a sewed on velvet tie up collar but I unpicked it as it looked a bit too much, I think it looks alot nicer with the necklace, exactly how I pictured this necklace would look with the right blouse.

Now then... I’ve wanted a pinafore style dress for ages, and when I spotted this little gem on ebay I knew I had to have it!  At about four quid in total I think it was a bit of a bargain, especially considering my other alternative for something similar was a Boucle Pinney dress in Topshop which was about thrity quid!

I know it looks all a bit Victorian school girl but I do like it and I think I could wear this dress with so many other tops to give it a completely different look, so be prepared for it to pop up quite a few times!

Peace,

Everyday Hair

Currently I guess I have a bit of a lob going on (nothing disgusting people, just a long bob), mainly due to me wanting to grow my hair for holidays and because I’m bored of it as a bob.  Although, that being said, I’m always getting bored of my hair and am constantly trying to grow it long and then going and having it all hacked off.

So anyway, I thought I would show you just what I’m using on my hair and how I style it (don’t take the mickey, I know there’s not exactly loads of style there but the fact it all goes under the same way is a bit of an achievement).

So these are the usual suspects when it comes to my hair care (or possibly lack of it given the amount of stuff I've seen other people using):

Every day I use Schwarzkopf Supersoft Volume Boost Apple Shampoo, this one to be exact:

And then about twice a week I will use conditioner (I won’t lie here, it changes all the time, but recently I have been using Schwarzkopf Supersoft Volume Boost Apple Conditioner):

Before drying my hair I apply Moroccan oil to the ends, brushing hair before and after application (I buy one from home bargains which costs £2.99, I know there are alot more expensive ones out there):

And then apply some mousse.  Currently I'm using Schwarzkopf Supersoft Volumising Mousse but I seem to find that any mousse works the same:

Now its blow drying time.  To style my hair I use a round-barrel brush, and this seems to work a treat.

As it usually dries quickest, I start off by drying my fringe.  I usually style mine by wrapping it all around the brush facing forward, not pulled over to the side you want (a cowslick look is not a good one), and then continue to do this until dry.  When pretty much dry, pull it over in the direction you want it to go and blow dry until completely dry, you should then be able to push the fringe over.

Now, from your parting, lift up every section and aim the hairdryer at the base of the hair aiming up, do this all over you hair.  This helps dry the roots quicker and gives a bit of volume:

n.b. There is no need to pull the face, it should still work.

Now lift the tops layers of your hair from the root and blow dry to the ends, this should help style the top layers of hair.

We can now start to style the bottom to get it into a perfect bob shape.

So now you should have lovely bobbed shaped hair with it all facing nicely inwards, just like this:
If like me you have stupid hair which isn't beautiful and thick like (what seems like) everyone elses then don't worry because you can cheat using Babyliss Root boost crimpers.  Crimp the roots right round the hair to create even volume.

Finally, comb through, getting your fringe exactly how you would like it and then go mad with the hair spray (I personally think that my hair spray use has solely caused the hole in the ozone layer).

I use Tresemme Extra Hold:

Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

And bish bosh bosh, job done!

Ta da!

Happy Styling,

A Girl Like You

“You’ve made me acknowledge the devil in me,
I hope to god I’m talking metaphorically...”

This post’s TUNE is by Edwin Collins.  This song was released in 1995, I know this because I had a greatest hits tape (yes thats right, a tape) for this year.  It’s a tune I can never get bored of, considering it doesn’t ever seem to have been a massive hit that people remember I really think that this song is so so good!  You can check out the video here, and visit the website here.

Pip pip...

Corduroy Trousers: TOPSHOP (£7.00, sale)
Moccasins: Primark (old)
Top: Tesco (old)
Necklace: Dorothy Perkins (old)
Watch: Urban Outfitters (old)
Satchel: Camden Market (old)
Jacket: Primark (old)

Can you Adam and Eve it, I picked these trousers up for just seven whole pounds in the TOPSHOP sale, I didn’t even know you could buy anything in there for that price anymore!  Admittedly, despite the fact that they are a tad too small for me (my boyfriend commented that they looked like children’s trousers before I proceeded to squeeze myself into them), I still think they look good and were a bargain!

Considering these are a size 8 they certainly don’t feel like it.  Is it me or is TOPSHOP sizes like one size too small, especially with trousers.  Has anyone found this?  I am generally a size 8 no matter where I go, but in Topshop, I do feel like a 10 fits me better, or sometimes even a 12.  There’s obviously nothing wrong with being these sizes, but it’s just frustrating when you know that it clearly isn’t right.  But like I said, maybe it’s just me...

This top is courtesy of my sister, she was having a clear out of her wardrobe and I rescued this top along with a few other things.  I think I may have a problem... secret hoarder anyone?

I think I look quite coordinating in this outfit haha, everyone loves a bit of green, well at least I do, happy days.

Hope your all having a lovely week!

See ya,

I’m Ready for my Close Up #2

The last time I done this I was having a moan about my skin.  I had a lot of advice and obviously I couldn’t do all of it but I have tried to combine it to make my own little routine and attempt to make my skin better.  I can’t say I’ve noticed much of a difference, I still get spots, they still leave marks, but I will persevere with it all anyway and maybe tweek what I’m doing a tad, more on the skin care side.

So this is currently what I’m doing:

I now drink plenty of water (the whole 8 glasses a day as recommended), although, to be fair, I’ve always drunk loads of water, so maybe this isn’t such a biggie, but still...

I use St Ives Blemish Fighting Facial Scrub every other day, which I think is helping with the marks on my skin, it’s certainly not doing any harm anyway.

Boots toner (their own one, the cheapy one) everyday after removing makeup to make sure my skin is nice and clean.

I’m still using the acne medication as prescribed from my doctor, it’s a roller ball thing which you apply to your face, I don’t think it’s working though so this may stop soon.

I have continued to take my new pill which is also used as an acne treatment.

And I have generally cut down on the sweets and chocolate (with a few small minor slip ups).

Surely by now my face should be gleaming with wonderfully bright clear skin?  But alas no!
I did however have some very good advice that you should learn to accept your skin the way it is, and I have been trying to do, of course it’s quite hard when you are looking in the mirror staring at another spot but I’m getting there.

I think I do need a better daily facial cleanser/wash though, maybe something that helps remove dead skin cells or something with a bit of an exfoliator in?  If you can let me know of some good ones it would be very much appreciated.

Stay Sexy,
