Crossroads

When life hands you lemons... cry

So right now once again I am sitting here feeling lost.  Monday, after having to make the hardest decision of my life, we made the decision to put my most beautiful little cat Peggy to sleep when her cancer had become just too much.  It's hard not to be selfish, all I wanted was to keep her for as long as possible, but even though we had literally done everything we possibly could for her, sometimes its just not enough and we knew it was time.  I wish I could put into words just how much I love my little one, but I can't, I will miss her more than anything, she was quite honestly the best little kitty cat we could have ever have hoped for, and I wish we could have had more time.

This brings me on to my title... I'm now at a cross roads in my life.  I would never ever have dreamed of leaving any of my beloved pets but it seems cruel fate has taken them away and now it's just me and my boyfriend.  We now find ourselves in a weird position with no real ties, all the options have opened up to us and we just don't know where to go from here.  One real option is leaving this country and going to live somewhere completely different for a year.

With this in mind, if you have ever packed up and moved somewhere completely new then let me know what it's like, is it as scary as it seems in my head?

p.s. I edit all my pics with PicMonkey.

Thank you,

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about Peggy. Losing a pet is the hardest thing to do, but you should be proud of yourself for being able to overcome the selfish desires to hold onto her so that she could take it easy.

As for the crossroads, if this seems like something you could do I say go for it, because the odds of you being in this same scenario 5 years from now might not be likely. That being said, I'm also a wimp and would never be able to push myself to do it, but I really think you should go for it if you think it's a good idea!

I hope the rest of your day gets easier.

  2. Sorry to hear about your beautiful cat. It's always so incredibly hard loosing a pet. Just think of all the good, nice and funny memoires as I'm pretty sure there are many, cats are funny things. Know that you did what best for her :)

I don't think I personally could live in another country on my own but with you and your boyfriend doing it together it could be one of the best things you ever did, I say go for it.

  3. Oh Helen, I'm sorry.

So unfair and really sad. Pets are never 'just' pets, losing them is to lose a member of your family. Sending you lots and lots of love.

As for your crossroads… Huge advantage that you two can lean on each other! Big scary decisions are always easier when you can strap on your crash helmets, hold hands and jump- together! I completely understand how you feel with this, you get to a stage when you feel like you need a new challenge, a new direction. Think of your options logically, plan as much as you can, consider all the boring stuff like finance etc, but if your heart is telling you guys that its time for a new adventure, then I say go for it!

I move in one week… One. Week. To be honest, I'm crapping my pants a bit, and feel awful about leaving my family… But I am super freaking excited and so ready for a new challenge!

Be brave and keep your chin up sweetness x

  5. I'm so sorry for your loss :( I've never moved too far away, though I go to school about four hours from my home. Keep us updated on your decision to move though, it would certainly be an adventure.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear this. It's a difficult life experience. I had to make the same decision about my pet a few years ago. I hate that feeling when I have to decide for others...
I'm sure that your cat had a great life with you!

  8. It is one of the hardest decisions to make. We had to make the same one for my fluffy mate "Dexter" a few years ago. His was a thyroid problem and he was just wasting away.

Go over the Lucky Lucille http://luckylucille.com/2014/02/moments-to-cherish/ She has just lost her best mate of 19 years. So sad for both of you.

I did not move countries, but did move states (from Tasmania to NSW) when I was 18 years old. Scared shitless but the best thing I ever did. You will never never know if you never never go. (old ad here in Australia).

But as I do say, if you don't love it, don't buy it. Don't put yourself into a position if you are not 100% committed.

    Fly little one.

  9. I'm so sorry for your loss, just think of how lucky you were to have the time you did with her.

I've picked up and moved to two totally different countries. We moved to NZ for a year and it was the best year of my life, meeting like minded people and having loads of new experiences. Moving to England was different because I knew it wasn't a temporary thing and we were going to be making a life here, so it's hard sometimes and I miss my family and friends in America.

I definitely think if you get the chance to travel and live somewhere else for a while though, it changes you and opens your mind. xx

  10. I'm so sorry for your loss, peggy seemed like a wonderful cat.

I'm not sure I'm old enough to have ever been able to move away from it all but I've certainly been at points where I've wanted to, I'm excited to move to uni next year because it'll be completely different and college feels like a very inbetween stage of life.

When I was younger we lived in Aalsmeer just outside Amsterdam for a year and I don't remember much of it but I know my parents and I loved it there.

I hope you figure something out. xx

  11. So sorry to hear about Peggy! <3

There have definitely been times where I would have loved to have picked up and lived somewhere totally different for a little while. I never did it and although I don't regret not doing it, I think if it's something that you can do I would totally go for it!

  12. I'm so sorry hear about your much loved cat, it's the worst feeling in the world losing a pet as you don't realise just how much of your life they are a part of. I think an adventure in your life would really benefit you, I'm off to uni in September but if I wasn't I would definitely be going to see the world starting with Australia. X

  13. So sorry to hear about your cat. It's really tough losing beloved pets. I have a pet rabbit (Oscar) and I hope he turns out to be the only immortal rabbit in the world's history.

Wow, going off abroad for a year sounds like a massive thing... but sometimes we just have to start saying yes...

  14. Oh no! That's a horrible decision you had to make, and it's always tempting to be selfish and keep them for longer... But like you say, not in pain and they know they're loved!

But a year abroad sounds amazing - often it's something people are so scared to do (myself included!), but I say go for it!

    Hmm maybe...

  15. I hope you're feeling a little cheerier now lovely! I was so sad to hear about Peggy, but time is a great healer and you'll get there. I remember what it was like to lose my dog Codi, after 14 years it was so heartbreaking but we knew it was time to let her go. Pets leave pawprints on your heart! You never forget but it gets easier! As for packing up and moving away...I'd be absolutely terrified, but if it's something you want to try go for it...life's too short for regrets!

    Keep smiling!!

    K xx
